Archbishop Sigismund von Schrattenbach hat a spezial predilection for the church hill, on which first of all he wanted to build himself a private villa. However, he changed his opinion
and planned the construction of the church, which the master
builder Christian Glaner from Werfen implemented according
to plans of the princely construction administrator Wolfgang Hagenauer in the years 1764 to 1766.

The Böckstein church has been placed into the landscape with a great deal of taste and empathy. Although it is only a small country church, the splendid fresco paintings in the interior as well as beautiful fittings are a surprise for the visitor.

The ceiling fresco which describes the history of origin of the picture with miraculous powers "Maria vom guten Rat von Genazzano", is from Johann Weiß from Augsburg.

After the Second World War (1951 - 1952) the church was given a general overhaul and the high altar was released from disturbing details.

The Böckstein church ist a famous place of pilgrimage, which is visited by a lot of believers every year.

It is definetely one of the most beautiful historical monuments of Gastein and is prowdly considered a baroque jewel.
